NewsKarachi: 6 July, 2009. The National Refinery Limited, Karachi takes the initiative to be the first in Pakistan to adopt the latest and most advanced bolting technology by installing the Hytorc LoaDisc. The ASME compliant ‘Self Reacting Load Washer’ to achieve a “LEAKAGE-ZERO” start-up the very first time on its platforming unit. This platforming unit has had a history of hydrocarbon leaks for nearly a decade & a half, and server fires. The platforming unit has remained a source of great apprehension for the maintenance teams for as far back as some people associated with it can remember; a few responsible people associated wit this refinery have opined. Till finding a solution in the Hytorc LoaDisc , NRL had been compelled to install steam rings necessitated by the several Hydrocarbon fires it had already experienced, and never knowing when the next would occur, especially because of thermal shocks. Adding a simple ‘threaded washer’ below the hexagonal nut was all that was needed to plug these historical leaks. But the main challenged that faced the NRL Engineers was whether or not to chance the LoaDisc ; whether to wait for someone else in Pakistan to take the first step, something that many others have been waiting for for the past five years! But NRL decided to take a deliberated decision based on their engineering skills, knowledge of their profession and their experience and install the special washer. OGEC was the contractor for this successful , “leak-free” turn around. |
